A lovely Japanese Showa Genuine Stoneware cup and saucer set in a hand-painted multicolor bamboo pattern. I believe this set is from the 1950s or 1960s, making it midcentury modern.

The cup and saucer are covered with a dark green color topped by an off-white mottled-pattern glaze. White rings line the inside of the cup bowl and bottom of the saucer. The exterior of the cup has a few handpainted tan/off-white bamboo leaves and a dark brown stem. The front of the saucer has yellow and green leaves. Though each piece has different color leaves I believe this is a matched set.

The backstamps read "Stone Ware Genuine Hand Crafted By Showa Made in Japan Oven-Proof"

There are no chips, cracks or crazing - please see photos for details. For its age there appears to be little wear or usage - it is in very nice condition. The cup measures 4 inches in diameter and 2 1/4 inches tall. The saucer is 6 1/2 inches in diameter.
