Seller's Comments and Description:
Listing is for a vintage Homer Laughlin Marigold Shape footed gravy boat and underplate which doubles as a relish plate.
The cream colored bodies are decorated with delicate floral decals, gold filigree and gold trim. Floral clusters of pink roses and multi-color flowers (decals) complement the fan-shaped embossing.
The gravy boat date code is "L 42 N 8" (December 1942) and the relish plate is "J 42 N 8" (October 1942). The Marigold shape started in the early 1930s and was no longer offered after 1952.
The gravy boat and plate are in great vintage condition. The floral decals are in wonderful condition - no wear and very bright and colorful. The underplate/relish plate shows some utensil and stacking wear. The gold trim also shows wear but filigree does not. The plate's underside has a small area of discoloration on the scalloped edge. The footer ring has a very small outer chip. The footer ring has an larger inner chip under the glaze (see photos for details). There is also what appears to be a small crazing area also under the glaze (see photos) - it does not break the glaze surface. The gold trim on the gravy boat shows a little wear at the spout, and the handle shows small separation under the glaze (see photos). The gold filigree and floral decals do not show wear.
The underplate/relish dish is 9 1/8 inches long and 6 1/4 inches wide. The gravy boat is 7 1/2 inches long, 4 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches tall. Both items are stamped "Homer Laughlin Made in U.S.A."
