Seller's Comments and Description:

Listing is for a vintage vegetable serving bowl from the Franciscan Earthenware Picnic pattern. The Picnic pattern of green and yellow flowers on a light green earthenware body was introduced in the early 1970s.

This Franciscan earthenware bowl is in very good gently used condition with no chips, cracks or crazing and hardly any surface wear. It is in "like new" condition. It is 9 1/4 inches in diameter and 2 1/4 inches tall. The mark on the bottom reads "Interpace Franciscan Earthenware Made in USA 118-70 Ovensafe / Color Fast."

In 1962 Gladding, McBean & Company merged with Lock Joint Pipe Company, the largest producer of pre-stressed pipe in the United States and one of the leading manufacturers of concrete sewer, culvert and sub-aqueous pipe, to form International Pipe and Ceramics Corporation (Interpace). Gladding, McBean & Co. moved to new corporate headquarters in New Jersey, and their Glendale, CA, plate became Franciscan Ceramics, Inc., a division of Interpace. In 1979 Interpace sold the Franciscan Ceramics division to Wedgwood. Wedgwood closed the Glendale plant in 1984 and moved production to England.
