Seller's Comments and Description:
Listing is for a vintage Shawnee art pottery pitcher, yellow glaze with blue and brown flowers. I believe this pitcher is from the 1940s or 1950s.
Pitcher is in very good gently used condition with no chips or crazing, and hardly any surface wear. There is a small approx. 3/4-inch-long hairline crack at the mouth near the top of the handle - see photos. Bottom is stamped "USA 35."
The Shawnee Pottery Company started producing their wares in 1937. The son of owner of Hull Pottery managed Shawnee in Zanesville, Ohio. At the height of its operation, Shawnee produced nearly 10,000 pieces a day intended for five & dime stores and other inexpensive outlets. Shawnee Pottery ceased production in 1961.
This pitcher or jug will fit in well with your vintage kitchen pottery collection.
